National Ballroom Dance Week
During National Ballroom Dance Week MASSABDA promotes ballroom
dancing with the Fall Classic, a day of workshops, dining,
performances and a gala social dance. MASSabda also works with numerous
ballroom venues all around Boston. In 1998 MASSABDA also organized 12 weekends of dancing
at the Mall at Chestnut Hill! Come watch some great exhibitions, or volunteer to put on a
show of your own. Contact NBDW coordinator for information.
Competition
MASSABDA is the sponsor for periodic local and regional ballroom dance competitions.
Outreach
MASSABDA sponsors a number of programs in an effort to reach out to those who would like
to dance.
For local seniors, there are monthly ballroom dance demonstrations in area
retirement and nursing homes, as well occasional special events. During 1997
outreach coordinator Emma Lee organized 3 "Senior Golden Opportunities" Ballroom
Showcases with the Harvard Health Plan at local Hotel ballrooms in Braintree,
Needham, and Worcester.
The general outreach program encourages year-round ballroom showcases. MASSABDA
dancers have been regularly featured at Boston International Dance Festival, the
Boston Public Library, Worcester's Mechanics Hall, "Springtime" at the Mall at
Chestnut Hill, Boston's "First Night" and many other events.
Our Mission statement summarizes what we are all about.
MASSABDA welcomes new members and visitors to the area. For more information,
drop a note to any of our officers.
